CVI's staff of full-time investigators conducts insurance claims investigations, many of which contain elements of serious fraud. Such claims may involve staged car accidents, exaggerated workers' compensation injuries, phony thefts and fake death claims.
CVI's investigators receive basic training in a broad range of areas, including: records and information retrieval, civil and criminal law, surveillance, and interviewing. Many assignments require investigators to spend countless hours in a motor vehicle, conducting mobile and stationary surveillance in sometimes-adverse conditions. This work environment is generally attractive to individuals who enjoy working independently and appreciate variety.

Position Description
The investigator trainee works under the supervision of a district or regional manager until they have demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to be a successful and proficient investigator.
Investigators regularly do the following:
- Locate, gather, and disseminate evidence related to suspect insurance claims;
- Gather information about individuals, companies, and other entities from public and non-public sources;
- Conduct surveillance from motor vehicles, and covertly document activities of individuals, companies, and other entities;
- Interview and obtain statements from claimants, witnesses, and other individuals;
- Locate and obtain records related to individuals, companies, and other entities;
- Write detailed and concise reports, suitable for submission to government agencies, courts, and insurance carriers;
- Work varying schedules, typically no less than 50 hours per week; and
- Other related tasks.
Pre-requisites Necessary for Application
In an effort to recruit outstanding individuals for an entry-level trainee program, candidates must be able to demonstrate their ability to make sound decisions, work independently, and manage a demanding caseload.
At a minimum, applicants must possess the following:
- A Bachelors Degree (4-year) or equivalent relevant experience in investigations;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- A high level of integrity and outstanding character;
- Long-term career goals;
- A driving record free of excessive traffic violations;
- Ability to pass a comprehensive pre-employment background investigation;
- Willingness to work unusual and varied hours, including weekends and holidays;
- Ability to pass a pre-placement drug abuse screen; and
- A reliable vehicle for business use.
The ideal candidates should possess the following character traits:
- A specific interest in the insurance fraud investigation industry;
- Motivated and prepared to work between 50 and 60 hours per week;
- Patient and focused, capable of remaining stationary in a vehicle for extended periods of time;
- A self-starter with a demonstrated ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing environments;
- Independent, capable of working with little or no supervision;
- Self directed, eager to tackle challenges head-on;
- A keen observer who pays close attention to detail;
- An excellent verbal communicator with a professional presentation;
- An experienced writer, with the demonstrated ability to create clear, concise, and accurate reports;
Career Development
All newly hired investigators, even those with extensive experience, participate in a fully paid training program custom tailored to their individual needs. The program includes one-on-one or classroom instruction, independent study, and serious field training alongside senior investigators. Trainees also work closely with management until they become proficient at handling a full caseload on their own. Additionally, as part of ongoing training, all investigators receive periodic in-service training at their district or regional office.
Investigators are provided with laptop computers, all the necessary surveillance equipment, and licensing sponsorship. Seasoned investigators are encouraged to keep up with current trends by attending continuing education classes and industry-related seminars under CVI's tuition reimbursement program.
